 The JOY Ministry began in 1995, first as a class for one child with special needs, and has grown to serve hundreds of families. We serve babies – adults with disabilities here at the Graceview Campus. JOY Hero church training is available to help other churches help families. We've enocouraged churches all over the United States to begin or enhance the special needs ministry at their church location.
Purpose – The purpose of The JOY Ministry is “To Empower the Disability Community with God’s Love." By welcoming to our church families who are affected by special needs, we can begin to care for their family member while encouraging them to get involved in church. Many families who have special needs family members are used to ”home churching” or “tag teaming.” They are not used to someone actually stepping forward to care for their special needs child or adult. When we can do that and welcome them “just as they are,” it frees them not only to be ministered to, but to begin to use their gifts and talents and minister to others as well.
Our Vision – The Vision of The JOY Ministry @ Graceview is to continue to welcome families with special needs, to offer support to them, and to encourage them to get involved however they can in the life of Graceview and our community. It is also our desire to make available resources for them to grow as a family, to be educated in special education laws and trainings, as well as to offer our help and encouragement to other churches all over the world of many denominations to begin JOY Ministries. That’s what we call “Taking JOY to the World.”
If you would like to visit The JOY Place, just come by and we’ll have you fill out an information packet. We do ask if you have medical needs that you call ahead and sign up with Denise Briley, Minister to Special Needs Families, so qualified staff can be assigned to your child/adult with special needs. We also have a volunteer nurse on duty every Sunday, but they do not dispense any medications.
